Philosophy
We created a blended approach rooted in Spanish language and holistic play to nurture the whole child. All of our lessons are carefully developed to foster second language acquisition in a natural setting.
Beginning with an emergent curriculum, children are gradually exposed to components and best practices from many philosophies including Reggio Emilia, Montessori, and creative hands-on curriculums. We encourage self-directed play to give children the opportunity to hone decision-making and planning skills. We introduce concepts further developed with the children and their emergent ideas and interests.
We believe in building a loving and supportive community and are committed to being engaged and involved in the child's everyday learning. Our rich environment allows children to grow, play, discover, develop, dream, and learn.
Approach
Our unique combination of an academically challenging, emotionally supportive, and creatively stimulating environment and activities provides our students with a solid foundation for the future.
We use the Montessori practices for our practical life skills, sensorial activities, mathematics, and geometry. Our Hands-on project-based activities offer children an engaging and interactive way to follow the Spanish narrative and connect it with what their little hands are doing. This includes science experiments, gardening, cooking, arts, and crafts.
We also value the child-led and team communication approach followed by the Reggio Emilia philosophy. Children will benefit from having their environment serve as 'The Third Teacher.' They will express themselves through "drawings, sculpting, dramatic play, writing, and painting." This is often referred to as learning through’ The Hundred languages. We will document your child’s preschool journey through pictures, videos, and portfolios.
Everything we do is enriched through a lens of global and community awareness and cultural sensitivity. At Chiqui Social we embrace diversity and heritage and celebrate our differences. Our low teacher-to-child ratio allows us to truly support each child’s emotional, physical, and cognitive needs.
Our Environment
Because learning begins with the senses, a child gathers meaning from the world through the experiences of touching, hearing, smelling, seeing, and tasting — our environment is a rich and stimulating, but never overwhelming, environment. The classroom has an open structure where a child can choose individual areas of interest. All activities and learning are based on play.
The cactus in our brand’s logo is symbolic of one of the most prominent elements of the natural world in Mexican history.
Our studio maintains a balance of style, design, and aesthetics, which is yet to be incorporated with modern education, reflecting the owner’s own passion for all things artisan both near and far, edgy and unique.
Chiqui is an abbreviation for chiquito/a, a Spanish term of endearment meaning "little kid"
Serving as a reference to the foundation of Tenochtitlan, the Aztec capital which translates to “place of the cactus rock.” The cactus also forms one of the centerpieces of the present-day Mexican flag and continues to be used for food and medicine today. As it happens, the cactus is also native to California, the U.S. and all 22 Spanish-speaking countries.

Our furniture, objects, and materials are high-quality and easily accessible. Toys are made from simple, organic, non-toxic, quality materials to facilitate learning and development among young children as they master sensory, fine motor, and gross motor skills in the most natural way. Our welcoming, nurturing home-like environment encourages children to build relationships with the world around them.
