Hola, my name is Lizet. I'm a native Angeleno, heritage Spanish-speaker, and mother of 2 chiquitos. The idea for Chiqui Social came from my own desire to ensure my kids were exposed to Spanish at an early age in a fun and inviting way. Growing up in LA with Mexican parents, I heard Spanish everywhere — at home, at the grocery store, and on the playground! In fact, I didn't realize not everyone spoke Spanish until I started kindergarten at 5 years old.
When it was time to put my own kids into a more structured learning environment, I knew I wanted Spanish learning to be at the core. As a second generation household, we were all too aware that we needed additional support outside the home to ensure we remained a dual-language household. To my surprise, I found limited options available for families trying to incorporate Spanish into their kids’ everyday lives. As I considered what I was looking for, I realized that I, too, was looking to find a broader community where Spanish was encouraged and celebrated regardless of skill level. It was during this search that I saw a need for quality Spanish options in early childhood education and beyond.
To my surprise, I found limited options available for families trying to incorporate Spanish into their kids’ everyday lives.
I started to put my ideas together, asking other parents if they were also in need of this service and talking to as many experts in the field of early childhood education and dual language learning as I could. Finally, the time came to leave an esteemed 15 year career in publishing, most recently at Univision and Condé Nast to make this vision a reality
CHIQUI SOCIAL is a heartfelt blend of all things that inspire me, kids, Spanish Immersion, and community. I hope you’ll join us, collaborate with us and call this your home as we aim to raise socially aware global citizens together.
Besitos,
Lizet
